Two Equine Industry Leaders Honored at Midway University's Spotlight Awards
Midway, KY (06/02/2022) — On May 26, the Midway University community gathered to honor two leaders from the equine industry, Tracy Farmer and Shannon Arvin, to raise funds for student scholarships, and to celebrate the 175th anniversary of Midway University.
Tracy Farmer, a horseman, entrepreneur, and past trustee, received the Legacy Award, which honors a person that has impacted Midway University over a period of many years by giving time, service, support, and/or resources.
Midway University Board of Trustee Chair, Donna Campbell, called Tracy's service invaluable. She added, "Your leadership in so many various roles has been inspiring and your commitment to protecting the environment and helping make Old Frankfort Pike a National Scenic Byway has been admirable."
Shannon Arvin, President, Keeneland Association, received the Pinkerton Vision Award. This award honors the legacy of Dr. L.L. Pinkerton, one of the founders of the Kentucky Female Orphan School, which is now Midway University.
President Marsden called Shannon a role model. "Shannon, just as Midway University has been making history for 175 years, you are making history in your own right. You are a role model for many young women who have aspirations of being a CEO one day, no matter which career path is chosen."
The Spotlight Awards were held on campus inside the McManis Student Center's Marshall Gymnasium. The evening is the largest annual fundraising event for Midway University and funds raised during the event benefit ongoing academic programming and student scholarships.
