Midway University Faculty Member Dr. Gavin Washington Elected to SHAPE America Board of Directors

Midway, KY (04/07/2026) — Midway University is proud to announce that Dr. Gavin Washington, Associate Professor of Sport Studies, has been elected to the Board of Directors for SHAPE America, a leading national organization dedicated to advancing health and physical education.

Serving as the voice for more than 200,000 health and physical education professionals across the United States, SHAPE America represents a broad network of educators, advocates, and 50+ state affiliate organizations. Since its founding in 1885, the organization has played a critical role in defining excellence in school-based health and physical education, including establishing the widely adopted National Physical Education and National Health Education Standards.

Dr. Washington's election to the Board reflects his ongoing commitment to the profession and his leadership within the field. In addition to this new role, he has previously served on the SHAPE America Teacher of the Year Committee, which selects the top health and physical education educators in the nation.
