Midway University Receives Positive Accreditation News
SACSCOC Reaffirms Institution's Accreditation for 10 years.
Midway, KY (12/09/2025) — At an annual meeting this week, the Board of Trustees of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) reaffirmed the accreditation of Midway University without requiring additional action. Midway University has been continuously accredited by SACSCOC, the regional accrediting body for higher education institutions in the southern states, since 1949.
"This is a tremendous accomplishment in higher education and for our institution," said Dr. John P. Marsden, President, Midway University. "Midway has worked collaboratively and diligently over the last two years to prepare for the reaffirmation process and to ensure we continue to provide quality academic programs that support our students' needs. Reaffirmation signals we are meeting our mission and student learning standards."
Reaffirmation of accreditation involves a lengthy process and touches the entire campus. The University submitted its compliance certification documents in fall 2024 that were reviewed by an off-site committee and then hosted an on-site team this past April.
"The process of reaffirmation focuses on continuous quality improvement, not solely on academic quality but also our financial standing, admissions processes, student affairs, library services, physical facilities, and much more. This shows that Midway University is a strong institution as this is a rigorous review of our academic standards and it shows we are on track for the future," said Marsden. "I wish to personally thank everyone who worked on our reaffirmation of accreditation; in particular, Dr. Carrie Christensen, who led our accreditation process, and the Quality Enhancement Program (QEP) Team-Dr. Hannah Freeman, Dr. Edie McClellan, and Michael Michalisin, for their work and well received presentation during the on-site visit.
The next affirmation will be in 2035.
