Midway University Announces New Online/Hybrid Format for Nursing Degree Program
University Continues its Efforts to Focus on Addressing the Nursing Shortage

Midway University will soon begin offering its Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) in an online/ hybrid model. Utilizing the University's online learning management system, nursing students entering the ADN program will have options of choosing the traditional format already offered through the daytime, on-campus format; the evening on-campus format; or now, the online/hybrid format.
Dr. Diane Chlebowy, Dean of the School of Health Sciences, explained this new option allows access to the ADN program to a much wider audience. "Students from areas farther from campus or those who need the convenience and flexibility that the online platform offers can now be a part of our program."
"We are excited to be able to once again find ways to help with the nursing shortage," said Chlebowy. "There are so many jobs available in Kentucky and throughout the country, and we want to help by educating nurses who can provide safe, competent, and quality care in a variety of healthcare settings."
According to the recent workforce study by the Kentucky Hospital Association, the state hospitals have more than 4,100 vacancies just for registered nurses, which is a 19.1 percent vacancy rate. For all nursing positions in Kentucky, it is predicted there will be a shortage of 20,000 by 2024.
The online/hybrid format will offer coursework online with skills lab training remaining on campus and clinical experiences at local healthcare agencies. Students will have the same curriculum and learn from faculty members during online classroom instruction.
As students apply, they will self-select which program format they choose. The first classes for the online/hybrid option will begin fall 2024. Applications will be accepted beginning February 5, 2024. Students must first apply to Midway University and be accepted and then apply to the nursing program and be accepted.
Midway University's School of Health Sciences offers nursing degree programs from the associate to the master level. Earlier this year, Midway University announced its Fast Track Nursing Option to help high school students use Dual Credit coursework to speed up the timeframe for earning their nursing degree.
