Midway University Dedicates the James C. Bowling School of Business
Midway, KY (11/19/2025) — At a ceremony following the November Board of Trustees meeting, Midway University proudly dedicated the James C. Bowling School of Business, honoring a distinguished leader (and his family) whose decades of service has helped shape the University's past, present, and future.
"Today's dedication stands as a tribute not only to James C. Bowling's decades of leadership, but to the entire Bowling family's enduring commitment to Midway University," said Dr. John P. Marsden, President, Midway University. "Their vision, generosity, and belief in this institution continue to move Midway forward."
Mr. Bowling was first elected to the Midway Junior College Board of Trustees in May 1962. For 35 years, he served with exceptional commitment, providing steady leadership and thoughtful guidance through periods of growth and transition. His influence helped strengthen the institution during pivotal moments in its history.
Beyond his service to Midway, Mr. Bowling was widely respected in the business community. He served as Senior Vice President of Philip Morris, where he was recognized for his integrity, innovative spirit, and strong mentorship. His professional success, paired with his dedication to education, reflected his deep belief in the transformative power of learning and opportunity. Mr. Bowling passed away in June 1997, leaving behind a lasting legacy of leadership and stewardship.
That legacy lives on through the continued service of the Bowling family. His wife, Ann Jones Bowling, served on the Midway University Board of Trustees for many years following his passing and was later named Trustee Emerita, a total of 26 years of service. Their daughter, Belinda Bowling Metzger, has carried the family's commitment forward as a longtime trustee and the current Vice Chair of the Board. Their other daughter, Nancy Bowling Gramps, has also contributed generously, sharing her artistic talents and supporting student scholarships, through artwork donated to the annual Spotlight Awards auction.
"The James C. Bowling School of Business becomes a lasting testament to Mr. Bowling's impact-ensuring that generations of students will learn and grow under a name synonymous with leadership, service, and educational opportunity," said Marsden.
